Lady Charlotte’s Wishing Well
Constructed in the mid-1800s using locally sourced Courtown
brick and lime mortar, this well is located along the picturesque
Sycamore Walk. Fed by a natural spring, it once provided clean
drinking water and was also used for family baptisms at Kiltennel
Church, built in 1770 as a memorial to the Courtown family. Over
the years, generations of children have visited the well to make
their wishes.
When it was first constructed it had a large domed shaped feature across the top and was much grander.
The local Heritage Group are currently working on grant Funding to restore the Well to its former glory. If you have any of the old Courtown Harbour Bricks red laying around at home and want to donate them to this cause, please get in touch!
